Bhopal: In the wake of various exit polls predicting a close contest in the recently held assembly elections in the state, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge held a late-night virtual meeting with Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath and party leader Randeep Surjewala on Friday to review the situation
A senior Congress functionary told this newspaper on Saturday that Mr Kharge held discussion with the two Congress leaders on emails to get their feedback on the party’s performance in the November 17 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh after some exit polls predicted an edge for BJP in the close contest with Congress in the elections.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Nath however said that he did not believe in the exit polls and has full faith in the people of Madhya Pradesh to return Congress to power in the state.
“I have faith in the people of Madhya Pradesh. Congress is returning to power in the state in the polls”, he said.
Congress veteran and former chief minister Digvijay Singh claimed that his party would form the government in the state by winning at least 130 out of 230 assembly seats.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan however claimed that he has absolutely no doubt over BJP retaining power in the state.
“BJP is going to do very well in the elections. Congress was even not in the race”, he said.
The counting of votes will take place on Sunday.
