Berhampore: A West Bengal BJP leader sprang a surprise on Thursday claiming that two Trinamul Congress MLAs from Murshidabad would defect to his party soon.
At Berhampore, BJP Murshidabad district president Sakharov Sarkar told the media, "Let's wait and watch the drama. Two TMC MLAs from the district will join our party very soon."
Though he did not disclose their names, his prediction has created a political buzz. Murshidabad has 22 MLAs. Among them, two represent BJP while 20 others are from TMC.
The ruling party MLAs have 16 from Muslim community. According to sources, the BJP has set its eyes on the two TMC MLAs who have been under central agencies’ scanner in different cases. Their residences were raided and searched already.
Last month, the Income Tax department raided several properties of Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas, who recently defected to the TMC from the Congress, over 12 hours for alleged tax evasion and questioned him and his family members.
Earlier Burwan TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the teachers' recruitment scam. He has been lodged in jail custody.
