BRS leaders develop cold feet in Adilabad LS constituency
Adilabad: Senior BRS leaders have developed cold feet in contesting from Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency despite Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti polling more votes than BJP and Congress.
Their hesitancy is owing to the Congress being the ruling party in the forthcoming parliament elections. And, BJP winning four of the seven MLA segments within the Adilabad LS constituency and standing at second place in Boath assembly constituency.
Moreover, BRS won only two of the seven assembly seats in the parliament constituency.
However, BRS leadership is keen that either ex-MLA Atram Sakku or former Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh should contest the Adilabad Lok Sabha seat.
In the recently concluded assembly elections in the Adilabad parliament area, BJP won four assembly seats, BRS two and Congress one. Overall, BRS party got more votes than BJP and Congress in the assembly elections.
BRS got 4,65,476 votes, BJP 4,48,961 votes, and Congress 2,51,886 votes in the Adilabad Lok Sabha area.
BJP’s Soyam Bapu Rao is the sitting Adilabad MP. Further, the party has the advantage of having four sitting MLAs who would use their influence in securing the Lok Sabha seat for their party.
There are reports that Adilabad zilla parishad chairman Rathod Janardhan, ADCC chairman Addi Bhoja Reddy and Jainad ZPTC T. Arundhati Reddy, all of BRS, are likely to join Congress in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday.
Rathod Janardhan is aspiring for the Congress ticket to contest from the Adilabad MP seat. It is said that former MLA Rekha Naik, who joined the Congress, is also aspiring for the Adilabad MP seat.
There are two MP seats – Mahaboobabad and Adilabad – which are reserved for STs in Telangana. Generally, major political parties allocate one seat each to Adivasi and Lambada communities. No party may give both the seats to just one community.
Both Adivasi and Lambada leaders are trying for party tickets from BRS, Congress and BJP to contest from the Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency. News is that BJP will re-nominate Soyam Bapu Rao for the seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
