Karnataka: BJP holds protest against arrest of Hindu activist Shrikanth Poojary
Hubballi: BJP leaders including the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly, R Ashok, staged a protest in Hubballi against the arrest of Hindu activist Shrikanth Poojary. Shrikanth Poojari, one of the accused in a riot case of 1992, was apprehended by the police on Friday. While the police asserted in connection with the commotion that ensued during the agitation for Lord Ram Temple in Ayodhya in 1992, BJP leaders termed it as a move by the government to intimidate Hindu activists.
During the protest in front of the Town Police Station, the BJP leaders demanded the immediate release of Shrikanth Poojari and the suspension of the Inspector involved in the arrest. The BJP leaders led by Ashok were detained while trying to cross the barricades.
Addressing the BJP workers, Ashok said, "Those who say Jai Shri Ram are arrested in Karnataka, whereas those who say Jai Tipu Sultan are called 'Brothers' by Congress leaders." He warned of continued protest if Shrikanth Poojari is not released immediately. Ashok urged Hindu activists not to be deterred by such government actions, emphasizing the BJP's unwavering support.
