Cong MLA’s sister joins AAP

BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the sister of Congress MLA Akanda Srinivas Murthy, Gagana Sukanya on Saturday joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Bengaluru and she was inducted into the party by AAP State president Prithvi Reddy.

A couple of days before, brother-in-law of president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) D.K. Shivakumar, C.P. Sharath Chandra quit Congress party to join AAP.

While Congress MLA Akanda Srinivas Murthy represents Pulikeshi Nagar Assembly seat in Bengaluru, Gagana Sukanya has served as secretary of BJP Scheduled Castes department for five years. Sukanya is the director of Kolar District Cooperative Society.

Sukanya unsuccessfully contested City Municipal Council (CMC), Kolar and is a member of Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) member in Kolar Zilla Panchayat. She is active in politics in the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) Assembly and she has good connections with the voters, developed during Covid-19 pandemic.

After joining AAP, she said, BJP, Congress party and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) have won from Kolar district but did nothing substantial for the development of the district and that it lacks basic amenities. “I joined AAP to bring the party to power in the State in the forthcoming Assembly polls and to develop Kolar,” she said.

State president Prithvi Reddy termed Gagana Sukanya as a “experienced” leader and was happy to induct her into the party.
