Locals stage protest against removal of houses in Amaravati
Amaravati: The locals of Tadepalli in Amaravati capital region staged a protest at the Undavalli centre opposing the removal of houses and shops in the name of beautification for Krishna Pushkaralu.
They alleged that the government did not take any action against illegal structures on the Krishna river Karakatta for Krishna Pushkaralu ghats but unnecessarily removing their houses and shops. The protesters demanded allotment of pucca houses for the removal of their houses.
The locals led by CPM capital committee convener Ch. Babu Rao staged road blockade which stopped traffic for one hour. They alleged that the officials had conducted widening of roads for Krishna Pushkaralu in Mahanadu, NTR colony, KL Rao colony, Undavalli centre, Seethanagaram and adjacent areas and claimed that houses removal marking was given to nearly 1,300 houses and shops.
Mr Babu Rao alleged that the Telugu Desam promised 3 cents of land to every family but now snatching the house after winning the elections forcing the public on to the roads. He alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu plans to turn Amaravati into a cosmopolitan city and was forcibly removing the houses of poor people to keep the city without slums.
CPM Guntur district secretary P. Rama Rao said that the poor are living in 5,000 houses but the government was bent on removing these houses for the world class new capital Amaravati. He alleged that the TD was trying to hurt the poor after coming to power with the votes of poor people and demanded removal of houses only after shifting the poor people into pucca houses.
CPM district executive member, J. Sivasankar lamented that poor people were living in Tadepalli for the past 40 years.
