People of various sections celebrated Congress victory

Warangal: Several people, who continued to celebrate the Congress victory in the Assembly elections on Monday, recalled how the party had helped them when they were in trouble, while others asked why the BRS had promised many measures while not implementing them in the first place during its two terms in office.

Ilaiah, a farmer, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said that he suffered a lot because of the BRS leaders, who tried to grab his four acres of land. They tried to force him to sell the land at a lower price. Those, like him, who refused to oblige were threatened with dire consequences. The leaders threw empty beer bottles at his house during nights, he said.

“When I took the issue to the notice of the local Congress leader he immediately spoke to police officials and helped me get my land back from the encroachers. That is why I not only wished that the Congress should come to power but also worked hard for its victory,” he said, with a smile on his face.

Naresh, an autorickshaw driver, said that it was only to grab votes that then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had promised to remove fitness tax on their vehicles. “From when was he so concerned about our plight, when he left us in the lurch as CM,” he said.

The Congress’s Six Guarantees proved to be the clinchers. Many were firm that the Congress, which had given the separate state, would also implement all the guarantees.

Visweshwar Rao, a government teacher, said that he was a big fan of TPCC chief Revanth Reddy and his leadership qualities. As soon as results went in favour of the Congress, he called his friends and celebrated the party’s victory, he said.

Meanwhile, Krishna Murthy from Balasamudram in Hanamkonda city, a staunch supporter of BRS, told this correspondent that he was disappointed after the party lost power. “It had taken up several developmental works and had introduced many schemes. Confident of a triumph, I had promised to throw a grand party to my friends after a BRS hat-trick. The results have come as a huge shock.”
