CPM Accuses BJP-RSS of Imposing Chaturvarna System in the Name of Hindutva Agenda
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Friday lashed out at the BJP-RSS accusing them of imposing the Chaturvarna system in the name of Hindutva politics.
Mr Govindan said the BJP–RSS ideology believes in the charthurvarna system which recognises four castes; Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. “Of these four varnas only two are present in Kerala, the Brahmins and Shudras. As far as Vaishyas and Kshatriyas are concerned, they are minuscule. Then there are Shudras who are mainly Nairs and Nambiars. But all the remaining categories of people belonging to the SC/ST, OBC, and most backward communities are Avarnas or Chandalas who are not even considered part of the Varna system. They are out of the system,” the CPM leader said at a press conference at the party headquarters here. "The Sangh Parivar believes in vamsha shuddhi and caste superiority," he added.
He made the statement against the backdrop of BJP-RSS’s Hindutva push in the name of Ram temple in Ayodhya. “The Rama temple was originally scheduled to be completed only by 2025. But the BJP and Sangh Parivar advanced the inauguration to 2024 with an eye on using the religious sentiments of people to garner votes during the Lok Sabha polls. It is a political move to build the temple on the Babri Masjid demolition site,” he said.
The CPM leader took a dig at the Congress's indecisiveness in attending the inauguration of Ram temple. “While the CPM has categorically stated that it will not attend the inaugural ceremony, the Congress is yet to take a concrete stand on the issue,” he said.
The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, which is the only state ruled by the Congress in the entire northern belt, has openly stated that he would attend the temple inauguration with or without invitation. “Congress must realise that it cannot beat the BJP which plays total Hindutva politics, by adopting soft Hindutva gena. The BJP and RSS can be countered effectively only by strongly upholding the secular values enshrined in our constitution.
The CPM leader said that his party was cooperating with other secular parties including the Congress to checkmate the BJP and RSS which are allegedly destroying the secular fabric of the country, constitutional values and constitutional bodies.
