No change in Congress slogans since 1947: K. Chandrasekhar Rao
Khammam: TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday attacked the Congress’ attempt to mitigate poverty with its proposed ‘Nyay’ scheme saying that its slogans had remained unchanged for decades.
“There is no difference in the slogans used by the Congress since Indepen-dence. Gandhiji likened the poor in 1947 by saying Daridro Narayana Hari and Jawaharlal Nehru carried it on. Indira Gandhi coined Garibi hatao and her son Rajiv Gandhi used to speak of poverty eradication. Mr P.V. Narasimha Rao and Mr Manmohan Singh made such slogans when they were in power. The scion of the Gandhis, Mr Rahul, is raising the same slogan. What is the message that they are trying to convey? That poverty is still prevailing after the Gandhis’ long rule,” Mr Rao asked.
He said at a public meeting in Khammam that the Congress governments had failed to remove poverty from the grassroots. “We as Indians failed to use hydro power from the hundreds of rivers that the country has. Many habitations are still in the dark. We have not succeeded in extending water for farming though 70,000 tmc ft of water is available in the country. Where and what went wrong in making use of these resources for the development of the country,” he asked, adding that no party ruling the country had tried for qualitative changes.
The BJP and the Congress were blaming each other and making nonsensical statements, he claimed. “The loudspeakers are resounding with their lies,” alleged Mr Rao.
He said the BJP also had its share of responsibility as it too had led the nation for some years. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to bring black money back from abroad and deposit Rs 15 lakh into the accounts of the poor. Where is the black money and what went wrong with Modi’s promise? Modi speaks lies so easily”, he said.
He stated that election trends were showing that neither the BJP nor the Congress would get an absolute majority to form the government at the Centre. Surveys had suggested that the Congress would not get more than 100 seats and NDA would not get more than 160. There was no chance of forming a government at the Centre even if Congress and BJP joined hands together, he said.
Mr Rao stressed on the need of winning 16 Lok Sabha seats in TS. “We (Telangana) can make use of the situation for the development of the state. The people of the state should consider the dynamics of the country and state and vote for TRS in the election”, he said.
On the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, a project of local concern, Mr Rao said that very soon every acre in Khammam district would have enough water for two crops. About Rs 13,000 cr. was sanctioned for the project and all clearances had been given, he said.
