Vijayawada: TD executed Rs 1.5 lakh crore works

Vijayawada: Apart from rhetoric of conspiracy by TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to destabilise Andhra Pradesh, TD supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu had been detailing about the developmental works that were taken up by his government in the last five years and also the future plans in his election meetings.

He has been asserting that his government had spent thousands of crores of rupees to develop infrastructure in both urban and rural tracts. Especially, cement roads were laid in every corner of the state, he says.

Government sources pointed out that Andhra Pradesh government has been giving top priority for development of local bodies and improving infrastructure in urban areas as the migration of people from rural areas increased in recent times.

The state government has taken up development works worth Rs 1,05,972 crore in 110 local bodies in the state and completed works worth Rs 4,707 cr so far. “As part of Smart City Mission, urban infrastructure was improved in Kakinada, Tirupati and Amaravati at a cost of Rs 6,420 crore.

In Srikakulam, Eluru, Ongole, Nellore, Kurnool and Anantapur, works worth Rs 594 crore were taken up under the Mission and urban housing was taken up at a cost of Rs 38,265 crore.

Under SC sub-plan, infrastructure was improved in SC colonies at a cost of Rs 2,196 cr and in ST colonies with Rs 76.52 crore,” said a senior government official.

The state government has been giving priority to supply protected drinking water and installing efficient drainage system along with development of roads and solid waste management. All street lights were replaced with LED lighting.

In Vizianagaram, Badwel, Markapuram and Kakinada, the infrastructure was improved at a cost of Rs 195.52 crore, and in Ananatapur and Guntur with `856.51 crore.

In addition, Rs 3,762 crore was spent to improve water supply and to construct storm water drains, drainage and for parks. The government decided to invest Rs 6,600 crore towards emergency infrastructure development funds and Rs 17,692 crore towards long term infrastructure scheme and Rs 2,100 crore towards system improvisation plan to improve drinking water supply system. The state government also decided to spend Rs 6,789 crore towards Vijayawada Metro Rail, in view of future transport needs.
