BJP top leadership to focus on MLA and MP seats reserved for STs in Telangana
ADILABAD: In view of the fast-changing political situation in the state, the BJP party national leadership is likely to focus on 12 MLA and two MP seats reserved for STs in Telangana state.
This was after the BRS led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao began the distribution of podu pattas to tribals in the state and the success of the Congress party meeting in Khammam where Rahul Gandhi was the chief guest.
Rahul Gandhi had promised to give podu pattas to all the cultivators when the Congress party returned to power in the state.
Hints are that a decision may be taken to encourage the Adivasi leadership in Telangana to be with the BJP, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting in Warangal on July 8.
The BJP leadership is focusing on the 12 Assembly constituencies reserved for STs and the two MP seats -- Adilabad and Mahaboobabad. Five constituencies are reserved for STs in the erstwhile Khammam district, Four among them were won by the Congress in the last elections.
The BJP is making all-out efforts to penetrate into villages in Khammam by organising party events. The party’s candidates were defeated in the byelections held for Nagarjunasagar and Munugode assembly constituencies where the Lambadas population was considerable in numbers. BJP fielded a Lambada candidate in the Nagarjunasagar, a general seat.
During the Warangal meeting, BJP may highlight the schemes that have been implemented by the Modi government for the tribals and recognize adivasi icons like Bheersa Munda, Komaram Bheem and Marsakola Ramji Gond, who fought for the rights of Adivasis and against the British and against Nizam’s forces, and setting up museums for Adivasi culture and showcase their icons.
The BJP high command is focusing on retaining its MPs like Adilabad MP Soyam Bapurao who was allegedly in touch with the Congress and BRS leaderships. Bapu had tried his best for a berth in the last cabinet expansion at the Centre but in vain. This disillusioned him.
News is also that TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy is coming to Adilabad for a party programme in August.
Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao launched the distribution of Podu pattas to tribals from the historical Asifabad, where Adivasi legendary Komaram Bheem fought for the rights of the Adivasis on Jal, Jangal and Jameen. The newly created district was named after him.
