Agencies target Congress-ruled states visited by PM: Kharge

Raipur: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday reiterated his charges that the Central agencies were targeting the Congress-ruled states.

Addressing the ‘Bharose Ka Sammelan’ event of Congress in Kodtarari village under Raigarh district, Mr Kharge said that Congress governments in the state were being intimidated by the enforcement directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi poorly portrayed these governments in his speeches during his visit to the states.

He said that raids were conducted in the houses of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh by ED barely a few days before the AICC plenary session, held in Raipur recently.

Mr Kharge said that Mr Modi attacked the Bhupesh Baghel government during his recent visits to Chhattisgarh.

Speaking on the issue of caste census, Mr Kharge said that his party wanted a census of the backward classes as the move would provide the exact details about their status and help in taking measures for their welfare.

He took strong exception to Mr Modi’s statement accusing Congress of trying to divide the country on caste lines and said that his game would not continue in 2024 Lok Sabha polls since people have become aware.

Mr Kharge called the ideology of BJP and RSS ‘anti-women’ and said that if the saffron party was concerned about women, backward classes and the poor; it should implement the women’s reservation bill now.

Mr Kharge said that he did not think the bill would be implemented before 2024 LS polls.
