Uttam promises timely salaries, restoration of OPS in meeting with govt employees

Hyderabad: Former TPCC chief and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, in a meeting with representatives of government and retired employees, assured that the Congress would ensure that salaries and pensions are paid on the first of every month if voted to power.

He assured that all issues related to interim relief and pay revision of employees would be taken up on priority. He said that the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) was not being implemented effectively by BRS and that employees and pensioners were not getting the full reimbursement of hospital bills, which, he said, the Congress government would rectify.

In the meeting, to discuss the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), health cards, delayed salaries, and related issues, he accused the BRS government of neglecting the welfare of employees and pensioners.

The former TPCC president strongly advocated for the abolition of CPS and the reimplementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), which assures employees 50 per cent of their last drawn salary as pension, as opposed to the contributory nature of the current system. He highlighted that the OPS had been successfully reinstated in Congress-led states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for ignoring the demands for OPS restoration.
