BJP, BRS take to streets following Bandi Sanjay arrest
HYDERABAD: Following the arrest of BJP Telangana chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar over an SSC question paper leak, members of the BRS and the BJP took to the streets to garner public attention.
During the day, several BJP leaders were also placed in preventive custody over the protests.
When the Kamalapur police, who arrested Bandi Sanjay Kumar, brought him to the Bommalaramaram police station in Yadadri Bhongir district, BJP leader Kuna Srisailam Goud and former MP Bura Narsiah Goud tried to force their way into the police station.
Both of them, along with a few activists, were placed in preventive custody.
As the news spread, a cadre of the BJP barged into the police station to protest the arrest, forcing the police to resort to a mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control. Sanjay Kumar was subsequently presented before the Bhongir magistrate and lodged in judicial remand.
As two magistrates were on leave, the police shifted Sanjay Kumar to Palakurthy of Warangal, for a court appearance.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA M. Raghunandan Rao also arrived at Bommalaramaram police station, where he was detained by the police. MLA Etala Rajendar and former MLA Raja Singh were also detained by police at the state BJP office and shifted to Hakimpet.
Another set of workers who tried to follow the police vehicle ferrying Sanjay Kumar from Bhongir court to Palakurthy were detained. The police vehicle broke down and alternative arrangements were made to shift the state BJP chief.
At Palakurthy, Sanjay Kumar was subject to medical tests at the government hospital before he was presented in court.
Meanwhile, BRS workers in Sattupally took to the streets to burn effigies of Sanjay Kumar over his alleged role in the leak and raised slogans asking him to resign as an MP.
In Palakurthy, BRS leaders staged a dharna at the Rajiv Gandhi Circle, holding placards demanding that the BJP suspend Sanjay from the party for his role in illegal activities.
