PCC to finalise mandal level committees by month end
HYDERABAD: The state Congress has expedited the process of constituting 30-member mandal-level committees, which are likely to be finalised by the month-end, in preparation for the Assembly elections towards the end of the year.
According to party leaders, PCC vice-presidents who are incharges of Lok Sabha or Assembly constituencies have been asked to send proposals in consultation with the respective district Congress committee presidents by April 20.
Each committee will have a president, vice-president, treasurer, three general secretaries and 21 executive members, of which six would be women. The classification will be 25 per cent each for SC and ST leaders, and OBCs and women, while the remaining 50 per cent will be in the general category. At least half of the panel should have members who are aged under-50 years.
“The Raipur plenary has set a benchmark, which will be followed while setting up these committees. Rahul Gandhi is very keen about proper representation, and the composition will be based accordingly,” informed a senior party leader.
PCC chief A. Revanth Reddy, who has been inspired by the Karnataka example, has asked party leaders to ensure that all the sections are represented properly in each of the mandal committees. Since the surveys for upcoming Karnataka elections are giving edge to the Congress, Telangana leadership is keenly observing the developments.
During the recent extended executive meeting, Reddy emphasised that Karnataka elections were crucial, as they will have an impact in Telangana. “Many from the state will campaign in the last week in Karnataka. Hence, we want to finalise the committees by April 26 and on the same day they will also have a meeting in Gandhi Bhavan,” added the leader.
