BJP Leaders Demand Compensation for Home Guard Who Attempted Suicide in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should pay Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of Home Guard M. Ravinder who tried to end his life by suicide, said MLC T. Jeevan Reddy.
Writing an open letter to the Chief Minister, he said, “The services of Home Guards who are doing their duty on par with the constables should be regularised. They are not being paid well and are not having any pension facility. Even those who die in the line of duty are left to fend for themselves. The retirement benefits that accrue to the constables are not available to the Home Guards.”
Expressing his support, he said, “Home Guard Ravinder tried to end his life by suicide unable to pay the debt he had taken from the banks. 25 per cent reservation should be given to the Home Guards while recruiting constables.”
Extending his support, BJP leader Etala Rajendar said, “CM KCR should take the onus for this situation. He had promised to regularise their services in 2017. Despite attempts to meet the ministers for the past two months home guards have only faced disdain and shame at the hands of the rulers and are forced to take their lives.”
Home Guards numbering 16,000 hardly get Rs 27,000 per month and have to forgo Rs 900 in case of absence from duty even for a day. They are being seen as daily wagers. We will stand by them in their bid to get job security, health cards and the CM should keep his promise to regularise their services, he said.
