I did not say anything about banning RSS: Siddaramaiah

Siddaramaiah clarified on Saturday that he had not said anything about banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Chikkamagaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified on Saturday that he had not said anything about banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), but only that any organisation stirring communal violence would not be spared and stern action would be taken against it under the law.

Speaking to reporters in Chikkamagaluru on his way to Shivamogga district as part of his state-wide tour, he pointed out that it was upto the Union government to ban an organisation and not the state, which could merely recommend action against it if the situation warranted it.

“But if any organisation indulges in unlawful activity, which threatens communal amity, then a government cannot sit idle with its hands tied but has to take suitable action under the law,” he added.

On the coming Assembly polls in the state, the Chief Minister said his party was not fighting BJP national president. Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi or state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa as it was more a battle of ideologies.

“Ours is a secular party while the BJP is a communal party. The fight is between secular and communal ideologies,” he maintained.

Deploring that although he had not made any personal attack against opposition leaders, they were targeting him and his party, making baseless charges, he said, “Neither Mr Yeddyurappa nor any other BJP leader has the moral right to speak against me.”
