Non-Resident Keralites get flight tickets to vote for K Sudhakaran
KASARGOD: Congress strongman K. Sudhakaran is determined to unseat CPM’s K. Kunhiraman, the sitting MLA of Uduma, and is leaving no stone unturned to achieve his aim. As part of his drive, he has planned to bring in the expatriate voters in Gulf countries by arranging a chartered flight from Dubai on May 11.
The Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), the expatriate wing of the Muslim League, has launched a project ‘Vote koottam’ in support of Mr Sudhakaran.
The Uduma constituency units of KMCC in the Gulf countries have also arranged air tickets at concessional rates.
Mr Anees Mangad, Kasargod district secretary, Abu Dhabi unit of KMCC, said that already many office- bearers of the KMCC had landed in Uduma to campaign for Mr Sudhakaran.
“This is for the first time the KMCC is bringing in expat voters to Uduma. We have a strong candidate there and he stands a good chance to win. In the Lok Sabha polls and the recently held civic polls, the UDF had made a comeback and Sudhakaran will win by a margin of at least 5,000 votes,” he said.
“Over 1,000 expatriates will land in Uduma to vote for Sudhakaran. We are booking air tickets for the interested voters by spending 300 to 400 dirhams each,” he added. Soon after the declaration of his candidature, Mr Sudhakaran had visited Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and addressed several meetings of expatriates.
