Include Covid treatment in Aarogyasri, demands Congress
KHAMMAM: The Congress demanded the state government to include Covid-19 treatment in the Aarogyasri scheme and extend free treatment for black fungus and Covid-19 related diseases to all persons below poverty line (BPL).
Congress workers led by Khammam town working president Javed took part in a satyagraha programme as part of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s (TPCC) call in Sanjeeva Reddy Bhavan in DCC office here on Monday. Congress leader and former MLC Potla Nageswara Rao and DCC president P Durga Prasad inaugurated the satyagraha by garlanding the participants including Javed.
Potla Nageswara Rao said the state and the Central governments failed in checking the spread of Covid-19. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had not come out from his farmhouse when the virus spread fast in Telangana. “The government is giving false information pertaining to the Covid-19 positive cases. The bulletin on Sunday issued by Khammam district medical and health officer Malathi showed positive cases as 950 and the bulletin of the state government displayed it as 110 cases. It shows the government’s nonchalant attitude in checking the virus,” he said.
He demanded that the government include Covid-19 and black fungus in Aarogyasri and extend free treatment to the BPL families. He said the government had failed to create confidence among people during the pandemic where beds were not available and thousands of patients were dying of the disease. The government was not even providing remdesivir injections, which were being sold in the black market at Rs 20,000 against its MRP of Rs 3,500, he added.
He said the NDA government at the Centre had failed in providing vaccination to the people. The government should have given funds to Indian pharma companies immediately after the Covid-19 outbreak. “No person in the Central government was sensitive over the problems of the people during the pandemic situation,” he said, adding that the government failed to give relief to citizens even with proper statements in the pandemic situation.
