Telangana Assembly polls: Applicants line up for BJP tickets

HYDERABAD: The flow of applications for a BJP ticket for the coming Assembly elections in the state is continuing at the party headquarters with around 700 aspirants submitting their requests for the tickets on day three of the process so far.

The party had said it would accept applications till September 10 and also made it clear that irrespective of their standing in the party, anyone seeking to contest the elections, must submit an application for the party ticket.

On Wednesday, among those who applied for the BJP ticket were Vikram Goud, son of former Congress minister Mukesh Goud who expressed interest in contesting for the BJP from Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad. Goshamahal is currently represented by D Raja Singh, who had won in the 2018 elections on a BJP ticket but is currently under suspension from the party.

Also seeking a ticket from Khairatabad constituency was NV Subhash, the party’s spokesperson and also the grandson of former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao.

Party leaders said there was no clarity whether the current BJP MPs from Telangana, Union Minister and state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, along Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Arvind Dharmapuri, Soyam Bapu Rao, will throw their hats into the ring. “It is up to them and the party high command to take a decision,” a senior BJP leader said.
