Congress protests BJP's new-age Ravan rant against Rahul
Hyderabad: Congress leaders and workers staged statewide protests against the BJP for depicting Rahul Gandhi as a 'new-age Ravana' on their social media platforms. They burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and the BJP.
Following a call given by the state leadership to hold protest rallies in every Assembly constituency, Congress leaders and workers hit the streets raising slogans against BJP, Modi and Shah.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Gandhi Bhavan as scores of party leaders and workers attempted to take out a rally to the BJP state office in Nampally. Huge police force was deployed to prevent the rally.
This led to heated arguments between the police and Congress workers. They clashed with the police after they were prevented from taking out the rally. The police had to resort to mild lathicharge to control the activists.
When Rangareddy district Youth Congress president P. Ravikanth Goud, secretary Samu Varun and others attempted to storm the BJP state office, Begumbazar police took them into custody.
TPCC chief A.Revanth Reddy condemned the police action against Congress workers. He alleged that the BRS government had obstructed the rally to BJP state office as part of the secret deal between BRS and BJP. Reddy said that BJP was afraid of Rahul Gandhi due to which they portrayed him as Ravana.
