Left parties played a key role in TRS triumph

The CPI has had a strong base in Munugode from the days of the armed struggle against the Razakars. It has represented Munugode five times

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's strategic move to have a political alliance with the CPI and the CPM in Munugode may have helped the TRS win the seat on Sunday. It appeared that had the Left parties contested on their own, the TRS candidate might have lost some votes.

The CPI has had a strong base in Munugode from the days of the armed struggle against the Razakars. It has represented Munugode five times.

In 2014, Venkat Reddy secured 20,952 votes (12.2 per cent) and CPM nominee Surkanti Srinivas Reddy got 9,206.

Left leaders have reportedly asked Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to hold a public meeting at Munugode to announce funds for taking up development works and fulfill his election promises.

Vujjini Narayana Rao was CPI MLA in 1985, 1989, and 1994 and Palla Venkat Reddy in 2004. Narayana Rao's son Vujjini Yadagiri Rao was elected MLA from Munugode in 2009.
