Hyderabad: Over 45 per cent of Charminar constituency boasts of commercial centres, while its landmarks include Lad Bazar, Mecca Masjid, Khilwat, Chowmahalla Palace, Nizamia Tibbi hospital, Gulzar House, Salarjung museum, HES Nizam’s museum, among other historic monuments.
The prime commercial areas like Madina, Patel market, Chetta Bazar, Lad Bazar, Charminar and Pathargatti have won global fame.
The residential areas include Moghalpura, part of Chaderghat, Khilwat, Lal Darwaza, Hari Bowli, Shalibanda, Aliabad, Kazipura and Jahanuma.
Charminar constituency has been represented by AIMIM candidates all along, including Sultan Salauddin Owaisi, Virasat Rasool Khan, Asaduddin Owaisi, Syed Pasha Qadri and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the sitting MLA since 2018. He secured 53,808 votes defeating BJP’s T. Uma Mahesh, who polled 21,222 votes.
Charminar constituency has been an AIMIM citadel since 1967. The party has announced the candidature of Mir Zulfaqar Ali.
