Hyderabad: No contender is taking it easy as they slog it out to win the LB nagar seat.
Holding door to door campaigns and launching tirades against one another, including by way of pamphlets, BRS and BJP leaders are trying to win the support of Telanganites of Andhra Origin (TAOs). Ironically, each is trading corruption charges against the other.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders allege that BRS has not distributed 2BHK houses to the poor.
LB Nagar’s sitting MLA from the ruling party D. Sudheer Reddy said that one of his primary conditions to join BRS from the Congress was regularisation of houses that remained pending since decades.
“As per his promise to me, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao directed officials to issue GO 118. Following this, 18,000 families in my constituency have benefited as their houses have been duly regularised,” he said.
He highlighted flyovers, underpasses and new parks that have been developed and efforts to reduce urban flooding in the area.
BJP candidate Sama Ranga Reddy alleged that GO 118 had given birth to newer problems like imposition of vacant land tax.
“The BRS candidate speaks about box drains built to control urban flooding but they all are in a shoddy condition. I am printing a pamphlet that will effectively counter each and every claim of Sudheer Reddy,” Ranga Reddy said.
Meanwhile, Congress workers held a meeting at a private function hall in Champapet on Sunday. They handed over ward-wise poll related activities to the local leaders. Madhu Yaskhi Goud is the Congress candidate from LB nagar.
Another strategy adopted by the candidates and their cadre revolves around one’s domicile. BRS cadre took a jibe at the Congress candidate and said that merely having a house in the constituency does not make him a local.
Similarly, BJP mentioned that the BRS candidate's house is in Malakpet, which is a neighbouring constituency.
With the constituency having many TAOs, each contender is trying to impress and influence them. Sudheer Reddy’s recent condemnation of the arrest of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu is seen as one such tactic that is aimed at winning over the support of TAOs.
