Balayya, wife campaign in Hindupur Assembly
Anantapur: In the view of previous instances of personal assistants failing to maintain rapport with party cadres and local leaders bickering, actor and MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna’s wife Vasundhara is leading the campaign in the Hindupur Assembly segment.
The YSRC has fielded former IGP Md. Iqbal to wrest the seat which is seen as a Nandamuri bastion.
Hindupur has been home turf for the TD after N.T. Rama Rao won three elections from 1985. His son N. Harikrishna also represented the constituency which is now with Balakrishna. The actor had won in 2014 with a 16,196-margin over the YSRC’s Naveen Nischal. Mr Nischal had contested thrice from Hindupur on Congress and YSRC.
The YSRC high command has fielded Mr Iqbal to attract the more than 35,000 minority votes in the constituency.
Mr Balakrishna had initiated measures to resolve the decades-old drinking water crisis in Hindupur town by diverting Krishna water through Gollapalli reservoir through a separate pipeline, and released water to several irrigation tanks.
His wife, Ms Vasundhara, has stationed herself in Hindupur and even celebrated Ugadi at Sirivaram and campaigned for her husband.
