HYDERABAD: Protests against the appointment of mandal in-charges in the state Congress continued for a second day at the party headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, here on Friday.
Party senior leader and vice-president Mallu Ravi faced embarrassment with the Congress workers preventing him from leaving and forcing him to get down from the car and walk up to the protestors. There were tense moments when a few workers climbed onto the Gandhi Bhavan terrace and threatened to jump if the alleged anomalies in appointing mandal in-charges were not rectified.
Palvai Sravanti, who recently contested the Munugode by-poll, was vociferous and alleged that people who are not voters of Munugode and who never worked for the party were made in charge. “They did not appoint a single in charge of my choice,” she said. Leaders from Siddipet, Bhongir, Gajwel, Maheshwaram, LB Nagar and Narayankhed also complained about the appointments.
The leaders alleged that PCC president A. Revanth Reddy had got Mallu Ravi to sign the appointment letters as B. Mahesh Goud, the TPCC working president in charge of organisational matters, refused to approve several names due to objections raised by local leaders in at least 15 Assembly seats.
“When we tried to bring to it to Revanth’s notice, he did not entertain us and sent away asking us to discuss the issue with Mahesh Goud,” Sravanti told Deccan Chronicle.
The protests were finally called off when AICC in-charge Manikrao Thakre called Sravanti and assured that the party would look into the matter.
