Secretariat shift to take 2 months

IT department sought `17 crore for installing e-servers.

Hyderabad: The roads and buildings department has informed state government that it needs Rs 6 crore to complete repairs at Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Bhavan (BRKR Bhavan), from where the Secretariat will function till a new structure is built.

The information technology department has sent a proposal to the government asking it to release Rs 17 crore to install servers at BRKR Bhavan to extend IT enabled services thro-ugh Smart Track Techno-logy.

The IT department wants 15 days after the servers are installed to start services from BRKR Bhavan. An official said that the R&B department had informed government that it requires two weeks to complete repairs of BRKR Bhavan buildings.

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi held discussions with a private company which undertakes packing and moving with regard to shifting furniture and other materials from Secretariat to BRKR Bhavan. Officials said that the company operators have told the Chief Secretary that they require two months to shift all the required material to BRKR Bhavan.

Meanwhile, following instructions from the state government, Secretariat employees are busy categorising files and making an inventory to shift them to BRKR Bhavan. The files are being packed and tracked carefully so that none of them go missing.

A Secretariat staffer said that separation of files section-wise in each department was impacting daily work and administrative affairs. Packing was being done without affecting clearance of urgent files as per government’s requirement.

According to R&B minister V. Prashant Reddy, the government is examining designs for the new Secretariat buildings and the technical committee which is analysing the structural stability of the buildings will submit its report soon.
