Khurshid slams KCR for defaulting on 2BHK promise
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Mallu Ravi came down heavily against Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for failing to deliver on his promise to construct 2BHK houses for the poor in the last nine years.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, Khurshid
said that Rao had constructed a palatial the CM's official residence-cum-camp office 'Pragathi Bhavan' on nine acres within nine months himself but had failed to construct the promised number of 2bhk houses in nine years.
"This shows his apathy towards the poor," the veteran Congress leader said.
He said that if Congress is voted to power, the new government will accord
priority to the ‘Indiramma houses’ scheme and distribute them to the poor.
"Back in 2014, Rao promised to construct 2bhk houses for the poor, while
mocking Indiramma houses provided by the earlier Congress governments by
describing them as congested living places.
As per estimates, there are no houses for 65 lakh families in Telangana, and Rao assured to construction of 5.72 lakh 2bhks. Even these have not been completed," Khurshid said, adding that those that were constructed are of sub-standard quality.
"These houses developed cracks due to which rainwater is seeping in. As a
result, the occupants are deserting the house fearing for their lives," he said.
He pointed out that against the lofty assurances of allotting Rs 23,679 crore
for the 2bhk scheme, he has just released a paltry Rs 380 crore.
Ravi said that the BRS government has shown an allotment of Rs 58,000 crore
for 2BHK houses on paper but released only Rs 682 crore because of which there has not been much headway.
Ravi said that if Congress comes to power, it will not only give plots to the poor but also extend Rs five lakh financial assistance so that they construct houses.
