BJP Legislature Parties to Meet in MP, Chhattisgarh to Discuss CM Faces

BHOPAL: The BJP legislature parties in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh may meet in two-three days to set in motion the process for the election of their leaders.

The BJP legislature party in Madhya Pradesh is likely to meet either on Sunday or Monday to begin the exercise for the selection of the new chief minister of the state, a senior party functionary told this newspaper on Friday.

The three-member team of observers appointed by BJP on Friday to oversee the election of the leader of the BJP legislature party in Madhya Pradesh may arrive here either on Saturday or Sunday, the BJP leader said, unwilling to be quoted.

The team of observers comprised Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Dr K Laxman, who heads the OBC wing of BJP, and BJP national secretary Asha Lakda.

Amid mounting speculations over the new CM in the state, senior BJP leader Prallhad Patel, who resigned from the Union ministry a couple of days ago after being elected member of the state Assembly, met the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here on Friday.

However, what transpired in the meeting was yet to be ascertained.

The meeting has however further fuelled speculations on the new chief minister of the state.

In Chhattisgarh, the newly elected BJP MLAs were on Friday given indications that the legislature wing of the party may meet on Sunday, a senior BJP functionary of the state said.

“However, the party is yet to announce the schedule of the BJP legislature party meeting officially”, he added.

Sources said that the three-member team of observers of the party appointed for Chhattisgarh is most likely to arrive in Raipur on Saturday evening to set in motion the process of selection of the new chief minister of the state.

The team of observers comprised Union minister Arjun Munda, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam.
