Blame game begins in Congress in MP, Chhattisgarh over poll loss
Bhopal: Blame game has begun in Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh over the debacle of the party in the recently held Assembly elections in the two states.
The infighting in Congress in Madhya Pradesh came to the fore on Friday when senior Congress leader and former Union minister Laxman Singh, brother of party veteran Digvijay Singh, took to the X (formerly Twitter) to vent out his frustration over the drubbing of the grand old party in the state in the polls.
Mr Laxman Singh has attributed ‘internal rift’ in the party to its disastrous performance in the polls.
“In its surveys, the Congress was in a position to win the election in Madhya Pradesh. But, unfortunately the surveys cannot reveal how many seats it lost due to sabotage. It (sabotage) is the biggest reason the Congress lost the election”, the post in X by him said.
He also took a veiled dig at his brother for blaming the EVM for the defeat of the party in the polls, quipping, “Blame the machine’s mouth”.
Former chief minister Digvijay Singh had earlier alleged that hacking of the EVM machines led to the defeat of Congress in the polls in Madhya Pradesh.
BJP won a landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh by securing 163 out of 230 seats to form the government in the state for the fifth time, while Congress bagged 66 seats.
In Chhattisgarh also, blame game has begun in Congress for the shocking defeat of the party in the polls.
Congress MLA and former minister Jai Singh Agrawal on Friday held responsible for the party’s debacle in the polls in Chhattisgarh.
“As leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Mr Baghel is squarely responsible for the defeat of the party in the polls”, he said.
Several senior Congress leaders held state party president Deepak Baij responsible for the debacle of the party in the state.
Mr Baij, who currently represents Bastar Lok Sabha Constituency in Chhattisgarh, lost the assembly polls in Chitrakot seat.
BJP trounced Congress to stage a comeback to power in Chhattisgarh by winning 54 out of 90 seats. Congress won 34 seats.
