Dynasty first: Senior leaders in Kurnool groom children for political foray
Kurnool: Several senior leaders in the district, who enjoyed power and amassed wealth through multiple means, are grooming their children for politics and future elections. The coming general elections will see hot contests in 14 assembly and two parliament segments in Kurnool and Nandyal districts.
Some of the heirs to the political throne had tested their luck in the 2019 polls, and some more are planning to contest the upcoming polls. Children of T.G. Venkatesh, K.E. Krishnamurthy, Shilpa Chakrapani, Rambhupal Reddy, Chennakesava Reddy and others are among them. Senior leaders are keen on continuing with their families’ grip on the respective constituencies.
Sitting MLAs including Srisailam legislator Shilpa Chakrapani, Panyam legislator Katasani Rambhupal, and Yemminganur legislator Yerrakota Chennakesava are planning to send their children Shilpa Karthik, Katasani Sivanarasimha and Yerrakota Jaganmohan respectively to the assembly.
These apart, K.E. Syambabu, son of K.E. Krishnamurthy, is set to re-enter the fray from the Pathikonda assembly segment where he had lost polls in the 2019. T.G. Bharath, son of Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh, had tried his luck in the last elections and would do so again. He is said to have cleared all internal disputes and even completed the spadework for the coming elections.
Political families of Kotla Vijayabhaskar, Byreddy Seshasainareddy, S.V. Subbareddy, K.E. Madanna, Yerasu Ayyapureddy, Budda Vengalreddy, Bejjam Santyanarayana, Challa Ramakrishna, Gangula Prabhakar, B.V. Mohanreddy and Shilpa Mohanreddy have have had a go in politics as family successors in the erstwhile Kurnool district.
Sources said senior legislator Chennakesava Reddy requested chief minister Jagan Reddy to give a chance to his son to contest in the polls. Adoni and Mantralayam legislators Saiprasad Reddy and Balanagi Reddy are also planning the entry of their brother’s son, Pradeep Reddy to the electoral fray.
Opposition leaders such as former Union minister Kotla Suryaprakash is also desiring a political future for his son, Raghavendra Reddy. Former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya has been trying to get a seat for her brother Jagath Reddy from Nandyal assembly segment. Former minister N.M.D. Farooq is also grooming his son N.M.D. Firoz for an active role in politics.
