BJP told to maintain Telugu Desam ties

Party wants to strengthen position in state through public meets.

Hyderabad: The BJP national leadership has categorically told AP BJP leaders not to annoy their alliance partner, Telugu Desam, and asked leaders to maintain restraint in criticising AP chief minister Mr N Chandrababu Naidu. BJP national president Mr Amit Shah expressed his dissatisfaction over certain BJP leaders of the AP unit openly criticising TD.

On Friday, during the BJP core committee meeting regarding AP affairs in Delhi, it was decided instead to focus on strengthening the party in certain pockets like Kadapa. A big public meeting has been planned in Kadapa in November or December in which party national leader Mr Amit Shah has agreed to take part.

The BJP has also decided to take leaders from the Congress and YSR Congress into its fold. AP BJP president Mr K Haribabu said, “We want to fill the political vacuum in the state of AP as the YSR Congress and Congress are getting weakened.

The BJP should be expanded." They chose Kadapa as the venue for the meeting this time as they had had held a large meeting at Rajahmundry last time. “One Kandula Raja Mohan Reddy has joined our party. People are deserting YSRC either due to the lack of confidence in the leadership or the actions of their leaders. While leaders and activists are leaving the party, the Congress is not picking up. So we have to fill the vacuum by strengthening the party," he added.

The state leaders, including MLAs, MPs, MLCs and ministers who took part in the meet, requested the national leadership to fufil the assurances given to the state of AP during bifurcation.

Mr Haribabu said, "We discussed the achievements of the party last year and a roadmap for the future too. We had increased the party membership from 1.8 lakh to 28 lakh and conducted 83 training classes and a huge public meeting at Rajahmundry in which Mr Amit Shah participated. We will take initiatives on fertilisers to farmers and offering low interest crop loans and insurance schemes to the public.”

The emphasis this year will be on formation of the booth committees and a training programme for mandal level office bearers in August or September in Visakhapatnam. A kisan rally will be held in Eluru in October or November,” said Mr Haribabu.
