Gadapa Gadapaku not election campaign, says Dharmana
VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for Revenue Dharmana Prasada Rao said there was resentment among the people against the government, while talking to the reporters during his Gadapa Gadapaku programme which was organized in PN Colony in Srikakulam town on Tuesday.
“The resentment may be due to the reforms the government brought in during the last three years. The people might have failed to understand them,’’ the minister said and added that there was no truth that no development was taking place under the present government.
He also added that the ongoing Gadapa Gadapaku government programme is providing their party an insight into the way welfare schemes can be delivered to eligible beneficiaries in the state.
“The feedback received from the programme will help us provide good governance and serve people better. This has never been done in the past,” he maintained.
Prasada Rao said Gadapa Gadapaku programme is not intended as a campaign for next elections. “It is the duty of the elected government to check how its programmes are working,” he pointed out. He said people now need not depend on their leaders to ensure that government programmes are implemented well.
The minister pointed out that previously (during TD regime), Janma Bhoomi committees played a key role in delivering welfare schemes to people. There were allegations of corruption in that system. “But our government has made welfare schemes transparent. Thereby, we are providing corruption-free government,” he pointed out.
Prasada Rao recalled former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi admitting that 90 percent of welfare schemes did not reach beneficiaries due to corruption.
“Now the system has been streamlined in the state. Welfare schemes of various types worth ₹1.65 lakh crore are being delivered directly to beneficiaries,” he underlined.
