O Panneerselvam's statement leads to uproar in Tamil Nadu Assembly
Chennai: Deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam’s statement that members of trade unions owing allegiance to DMK and Left spread rumours about transport strike even before the talks completed led to uproarious scenes in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday.
Speaking about the transport employees’ strike, Panneerselvam said even before talks between the government and the transport unions concluded, rumours were spread by the DMK and the Communists through WhatsApp that talks had failed resulting in the strike.
At this, the DMK members were up on their feet protesting the remarks by the Deputy chief minister.
Meanwhile, Panneerselvam also asked AIADMK members not to praise him after a legislator praised him as “Jallikattu Nayagan” in the Assembly. The MLA was referring to his efforts to get a legislation passed in Assembly enabling conduct of Jallikattu.
