Telangana in a debt trap: Ponnala

Lakshmaiah said that the BJP and TRS governments had ignored their election manifestos and were trying to divert the attention of people

HYDERABAD: Former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah alleged that the TRS government had thrown the state into a debt trap. The government had debts worth Rs 45,000 crore, he said. Capital expenditure, or money spent to build infrastructure, was restricted to 11 per cent of the budget, and it was 39 per cent when the Congress was in power, he said.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday virtually, Lakshmaiah said that the BJP and TRS governments had ignored their election manifestos and were trying to divert the attention of people from basic needs. He said that people were facing difficulty due to dramas played by the two parties.

Lakshmaiah said that the Congress had suggested virtual meetings in election-bound states due to the pandemic. The BJP government is least bothered about the safety of people, he said.
