Chandrababu Naidu draws flak from supporters for poll rout
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam leaders are directly and indirectly blaming party president N Chandrababu Naidu for the party's defeat in the recent elections. TD MP Kesineni Nani joined their ranks on Tuesday.
Mr Naidu is currently touring the districts to console the families who lost members in the alleged attacks by the YSR Congress party. Wherever Mr Naidu goes, women are seen breaking down over the party's defeat and the pictures are making it to the media.
Perhaps in response to this, Mr Nani posted on his Twitter handle: “TD now requires task masters not show masters.” TD leaders say his comment was aimed at Mr Naidu.
Some TD workers and leaders are supporting Mr Nani’s view. One netizen added 'Twitter masters' to the list, perhaps aiming at party leader Nara Lokesh who is very active on Twitter.
In private conversations, some defeated and elected candidates have found fault with Mr Naidu for the party’s defeat in the Assembly elections. But the same leaders would have praised Mr Naidu if the TD had won.
Some prominent TD leaders are meeting BJP leaders. There is speculation that they may join the BJP.
Four TD Rajya Sabha members joining the BJP recently is giving strength to these speculations. The TD leaders said they did meet BJP leaders but will continue in the party.
It may be recalled that TD's Kapu candidates held a meeting recently to discuss the defeat of the TD in the Assembly elections. Some of them blamed Mr Naidu for the defeat.
On Tuesday, two important TD leaders resigned from the TD and announced that they would be joining the BJP.
