Hectic campaigning by parties in Pondicherry
Puducherry: With just over a week to go to the polls, Puducherry Territory is witnessing hectic campaigning by candidates straining every sinew to secure the Nellithoppe assembly seat.
Top leaders outside the state would be paraded by the Congress and AIADMK led camps for the election campaign in coming days. As many as 8 contestants are in the fray for the November 19 by-election with the major fight being between Chief Minister and senior Congress leader V. Narayanasamy and nominee of AIADMK Om Sakthi Sekar.
Treasurer of DMK M.K. Stalin would campaign for the Congress candidate V Narayanasamy on November 13. National leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik will also attend election campaigns in the state, senior Congress leader and Legislator K Lakshminarayanan told DC.
“Apart from this Kushboo, TNCC chief Su. Thirunavukkarasar, Nagma would also be part of the election campaign in the last phase”, he said.
VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalan is also expected to take part in the election campaign for the Chief Minister. AIADMK camp is also busy with the election campaigning where TN Ministers M.C Sampath and C. Ve Shanmugham and party legislator S. Semmalai are canvassing votes for the party candidate Om Sakthi Sekar right from the first day .
AIADMK would bring ministers and other senior leaders from Tamil Nadu in coming days. The party candidate got a big boost as AINRC founder N Rangasamy also kickstarted the electioneering for AIADMK on Wednesday.
The candidates were seen crisscrossing various segments of the constituency.
On the other hand both the parties continue to raise allegations against each other ahead of the last phase of the campaign where Congress alleges that AIADMK brought ‘goondas’ from Tamil Nadu and threatening people. AIADMK accused the Congress of trying to manipulate election result using official and money power.
