BJP legislature party meet to elect MP CM, Shivraj worships Narmada

Bhopal: The BJP legislature party is set to meet here on Monday to elect its leader and end the week-long suspense over the new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.

BJP on Sunday asked all its 163 MLAs to attend the meeting, scheduled to be held in the state party headquarters here at 3.50 pm on Monday.

The party has directed the MLA not to give any kind of reaction to the media before the meeting.

The three observers appointed by BJP to oversee the election of the leader of the legislature party are scheduled to arrive here on Monday morning to set in motion the process of selection of the new chief minister of the state.

The three observers are Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP’s national OBC wing president K Laxman, and BJP leader Asha Lakda.

Sources said the majority of newly elected MLAs of BJP are currently camping in their respective constituencies and scheduled to reach Bhopal by Monday morning to attend the meeting of the BJP legislature party.

Amid mounting speculations over the new chief minister, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Sunday met chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here, sparking interest in the political circles here.

However, what transpired in the meeting is yet to be ascertained.

Names of former Union ministers Prallhad Patel and Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP national general secretary Mr Vijayvargiya, and state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma are making rounds in the BJP circles here as probable chief ministerial candidates.

However, Mr Chouhan’s camp still believes that the chief minister is very much in the race to retain the post.

In another development, Mr Chouhan on Sunday visited Khandwa to offer prayer at the holy place of Singhasi, an ancient saint.

He also offered puja at the bank of Narmada.
