Mayawati Designates Nephew Akash Anand as Political Heir in BSP Transition
Hyderabad: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has officially designated her nephew Akash Anand as her political heir, as announced by Udayveer Singh, the chief of the BSP's district unit in Shahjahanpur. Singh informed reporters that Mayawati declared Akash Anand responsible for strengthening the party organization nationwide, excluding Uttar Pradesh.
Singh stated, "He (Anand) has been given the responsibility to strengthen the party organization all over the country except Uttar Pradesh," as reported by news agency ANI. Surprisingly, the official party statement did not explicitly mention this significant decision.
The announcement reportedly took place during a district meeting attended by party leaders from various parts of the country. Akash Anand, aged 28, entered politics ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and has been actively participating in BSP events alongside Mayawati.
Currently serving as the national coordinator of the party, Akash's role indicates a strategic move within the BSP leadership. It's noteworthy that Mayawati, who has been critical of dynastic politics in the past, had previously appointed her brother Anand Kumar as the national vice president of the party in 2019, and her nephew Akash was assigned the role of national coordinator.
