Naidu asks AP CM to show some humanity
Vijayawada: Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for citing restrictions and stopping the pension of a blind woman, which led her to committing suicide.
Naidu explained that Sarojamma (40), a tribal woman from Nakkanadoddi village in Guntakal mandal of Anantapur district, tragically took her own life on Saturday after officials stopped her pension. She consumed insecticide when all her family members had gone for a wedding to another village. On returning, her family rushed her to Guntakal regional hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The TD chief pointed out that Sarojamma had been blind since birth. State government had been providing her a pension since a long time. Her younger brother, Kullaiswamy Nayak, secured a job in Railways about a year and a half ago. Citing that her name had been mentioned on her employed brother’s ration card, the government discontinued Sarojamma's pension a year ago.
Naidu said unable to bear the discontinuation of her pension by government, she took her own life by consuming insecticide on Saturday.
Sharing the information on Twitter, the TD chief asked the Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to show some humanity in actions, not just words.
