Post Jayalalithaa, MK era, polling a dull affair in Nilgiris

Even door-to-door campaign by party cadres at the ward level has become a rare scene this election.

Ooty: Post-Jayalalithaa and the Karunanidhi era, electioneering has become a dull affairs in the hilly Niligiris as it has failed to generate the expected momentum for the LS polls. Barring a couple of incidents like Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy and AMMK chief TTV Dinakaran's campaign trail in Ooty, and of course, during the filing of nominations by major political parties, the election mood is low.

Elections in the past would witness auto-rickshaws and taxis with public address systems, playing the speeches of the respective party leaders and songs to woo the attention of voters. This criss-crosses every nook and corner of the hills and gave energy and enthusiasm to the election mood. This type of campaign trail is hardly seen this elections.

Even door-to-door campaign by party cadres at the ward level has become a rare scene this election. Political parties used to hover around bus stands and bus stops in the town belt with public address systems in the past. This helped passengers waiting for buses to hear the manifestos of various parties and the candidates' promises for the constituency. This election, this too is missing, making this LS poll electioneering the dullest one in recent times.
