Vijayawada: The Telugu Desam received a set-back in Mangalagiri constituency as its main leader Ganji Chiranjeevi resigned from the TD, alleging that there was no place for BCs in the party.
Notably, party chief Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, who was defeated in the Mangalagiri seat during the 2019 elections, is aiming to win the seat in the 2024 polls. Chiranjeevi alleged that one community was dominating the TD and suppressing the BCs.
He also resigned the post of official spokesperson for TD.
Chiranjeevi had lost the seat to YSRC MLA Alla Ramakrishna in 2014 assembly elections and did not get the TD ticket in 2019. Lokesh entered the fray from Mangalagiri. Chiranjeevi, however, remained loyal to the party.
Chiranjeevi told the media that the party has not given him any suitable position in the party and he has not been able to withstand backstabbing in the party.
He alleged that leaders from a powerful social group including TD leader Pothineni Srinivas worked against him and this resulted in his defeat with a narrow margin.
The majority of the people in the Mangalagiri assembly constituency belong to the Padmashali BC community, of which Chiranjeevi is a part. Chiranjeevi said he will soon announce his future course of action.
