VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress Rajya Sabha MP Raga Krishnaiah elected from AP has raised his concern over poor conditions at BC, SC and ST hostels and in Gurukul schools of Telangana.
In a statement on Saturday, Krishnaiah, who is the leader of 16 unions and associations in Telangana, apart from National BC Welfare Association; charged that hostels in Telangana have turned into hellholes, with hundreds of students hospitalised due to fever and some suffering even snake bites.
The MP pointed out that a student had died after being bitten by a snake at the BC Boys Hostel at Birkur in Kamareddy district. He asked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to take immediate steps for improving the situation in hostels.
Krishnaiah underlined that mess charges payable to hostel students in Telangana have not been increased during last five years. He pointed out that a meal at a hotel cost at least ₹60. But the TS government is paying only ₹10 per meal. He questioned how one can provide a meal at this price.
The MP and leaders of 15 other organisations demanded that government construct hostels for accommodating BC, SC and ST students, fill the vacant BC commissioner’s post, appoint an IAS officer for BC Gurukula Society, provide medical allowance of ₹50,000 to each hostel, appoint a staff nurse for each hostel and create computer facilities in every hostel.
