PK arrest: Purandeswari flays police high-handedness
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh state BJP chief D. Purandeswari condemned the high-handed behaviour of the police by stopping the Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan at Garikapadu checkpost on Saturday night despite his plea that he wanted to go to his party headquarters in Mangalagiri to attend the PAC meeting.
He was taken into custody by Jaggaiahpet police at Anumanchipalle in the NTR district. Later, he was shifted to Jaggaiahpet police station.
Purandeswari in a tweet on Sunday slammed the state government over creating hurdles to the actor-turned politician’s visit to AP following a remark made by him that they might require a passport and visa to visit AP.
It may be mentioned that in the wake of the arrest of TD supremo and former Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu by the AP CID in Nandyal in connection with the skill development corporation scam, Jana Sena chief wanted to visit Vijayawada and meet Naidu to extend his support.
Earlier in the day, Pawan was denied permission to board a special flight at Begumpet Airport by the authorities at the request of Krishna district SP. In a letter written to the Director of Gannavaram International Airport, the SP said the Jana Sena chief was set to arrive at Gannavaram Airport after 4 pm.
Annoyed over the denial of permission, Pawan started to go Mangalagiri by road and when he reached Garikapadu checkpost, AP police stopped his convoy. Following a heated argument, Pawan lied on the road in a bid to protest against cops stopping his convoy.
