Naidu Gets Slight Relief from Andhra Pradesh HC

Court says Naidu should not be arrested soon for interrogation

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court, dealing with two different anticipatory bail petitions filed by jailed former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has asked the AP-CID not to arrest him till Thursday, in the Angallu attempt-to-murder case.

The court also said Naidu should not be arrested till next Monday in the Amaravati IRR alignment case.

Naidu has been named in the FIR on alleged irregularities in the construction of an IRR in Amaravati during the TD term. The Angallu case pertains to the violence reported during Naidu's roadshow in Chittoor district in August last.

Counsels of Naidu had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road and Angallu violence cases.

The prosecution argued that the CID had to arrest Naidu in the Angallu case as he was mainly responsible for the violence. In the Amaravati IRR scam, too, the CID has to interrogate Naidu and therefore anticipatory bail need not be given to him.

Naidu and several other TD leaders are facing charges for allegedly inciting an attack on local leaders of the ruling YSRC in Angallu village in Madanapalle mandal in Chittoor district on September 7.

Several YSRC workers and policemen were injured in the attack and vehicles were damaged.

Naidu, however, denied any involvement in the incident and claimed that the YSRC government had set him up in the case to harass him and his party workers.

The High Court also asked the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada not to issue any order on the petitions moved by the CID for Nadiu’s custody till Monday in the IRR scam case.

Meanwhile, the hearing on the PT warrant in the FiberNet scam case in the ACB court in Vijayawada was postponed to Thursday.

CID lawyer Vivekananda presented arguments on the need for questioning Naidu in the FiberNet scam and the need for a PT warrant. Hence, the ACB court postponed the hearing.

The ACB court dismissed the plea of Naidu’s lawyers regarding the ‘right to audience’ petition. Naidu’s lawyers pleaded for arguments in the call data petition. Hence, the ACB court postponed it to Thursday afternoon.
