BRS leaders fight in the open
Hyderabad: Infighting in the BRS in the Amberpet Assembly constituency spilled out into the open on Tuesday, when Amberpet legislator Kaleru Venkatesh and Golnaka corporator Dusari Lavanya and her husband Dusari Srinivas Goud got into an argument in Golnaka which led to clashes between their supporters.
The incident happened during a celebration to mark the birth anniversary of social reformer Jyotirao Phule that was being held at Golnaka. The MLA, corporator and her husband had come there to garland the statue of Phule.
Lavanya and her husband alleged that the MLA pushed and manhandled them when they were going to garland the statue. They also alleged that when they questioned the MLA about this, Venkatesh warned them that he would break their legs and kill them.
This incident led to a quarrel between their supporters which soon deteriorated into fisticuffs. This forced the police to intervene and separating the two groups.
Speaking to the media later, Lavanya alleged that Venkatesh was insulting and humiliating her for the two years but she had tolerated it since she did not want to embarrass the party leadership.
"But these days, the situation has reached intolerable levels. The MLA is not informing me about the development programmes being launched in my Golnaka division. He is not allowing me to participate in party and government programmes in my division. He humiliated me and my husband in the recent Atmeeya Sammelanam held in Amberpet," Lavanya said.
The MLA denied these allegations and said, "It's a minor issue which was blown out of proportion. We will sort out these issues internally."
