Ex-CBI official says Naidu's counsels failed on bail

Vijayawada: Former CBI interim director M. Nageswara Rao wondered why counsel of TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu did not file a petition for bail in ACB special court soon after CID officials arrested the former CM in Nandyala on September 9.

In a tweet, he pointed out that the arrest memo which the CID inquiry officer gave to Naidu indicated that he might seek bail. “The former chief minister’s counsels should have filed an application for bail immediately on the same day before the ACB court in Vijayawada,” he observed.

Nageswara Rao underlined that had Naidu’s defence counsels filed a bail plea before the ACB court and if it got rejected, then the counsels would have got an opportunity to move the bail plea in the High Court on Tuesday itself.

Because the defence counsels did not pray for Naidu’s bail, there was no way ACB court could grant it. This is the reason why Naidu had been sent to jail on Monday.

The ex-CBI interim director said under normal circumstances, when police arrest any person in a non-bailable offence, the first thing his or her counsels do is file an application for bail before the concerned court. In case of Naidu, his counsels failed to do so, he stated.
