TD to field BC candidate for Munugode by-election
HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam (TD) has decided to enter the high-voltage Munugode Assembly by-elections slated for November 3. Continuing its tradition of promoting Backward Class (BC) leaders, the party high command is reportedly planning to field its state general secretary Ilaiah Yadav.
Recently, party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a meeting with Telangana state party leaders. The TD party believes that it is the right time to play an active role in Telangana state. After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the TD has lost its popularity in Telangana region because of TRS.
Now that the ruling party under the new name Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is foraying into national politics, the TD is planning to regain its base in Telangana, starting with the ensuing by-election. Ironically, the TRS, BJP and the Congress have fielded forward community candidates. Taking it as an advantage, the TD is planning to field a BC candidate in Munugode.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ilaiah Yadav said that only the Telugu Desam has opted for a BC candidate at Munugode. The party high command alerted us to be ready for the Munugode contest, he said. Fielding a BC candidate will lead to widespread discussion among people in the constituency and have an impact on the eventual voting pattern, he said.
