Billboards With Political Ads Being Pulled Down in Hyderabad

Civic authorities said they are undertaking a special drive to remove political hoardings and advertisements on a war footing

Hyderabad: With the model code of conduct in force across the state, political posters, hoardings and advertisement billboards disappeared from the city’s skyline as political parties started taking action to comply with the election officials’ directions.

Government entities, including the Hyderabad Metro and South Central Railways, said that they started the process of clearing platforms and pillars on Monday and completed the process by Wednesday. Metro officials confirmed that such advertisements were removed from all trains, while SCR officials said they removed them in areas falling under Telangana.

HMRL and HAML managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “All the advertisements prohibited during the election code of conduct have been removed before the given deadline.”

He said: “We also caution those who paste posters illegally on the properties of the Metro Rail, especially on the pillars. The Election Commission of India (ECI) will take serious action on the violators.”

A senior official of the SCR said, “All the stations within the Telangana region have been cleared of advertisements prohibited during the election code of conduct.”

Civic authorities said they are undertaking a special drive to remove such hoardings and advertisements on a war footing.
