Hunger strike first step to curb wine sale

She told the party high command that she will launch movements against rampant liquor sales in the state and also against crimes against women.

Hyderabad: Former minister and BJP leader, D.K. Aruna, said that a two-day hunger strike is the first step towards the launch of a massive movement demanding the imposition of prohibition in the state.

While chatting with the media on Wednesday, as the state government is looking at liquor as one of the major sources of income and encouraging liquor sales with Telangana ranked as the first state across the country earning revenue through the liquor business, Aruna was quite convinced by her hare-brained idea, stating that she is holding the two-day Mahila Sankalpa Deeksha on Dec 12 and 13 at Indira Park demanding the state government impose a prohibition of liquor in the state.

When reporters asked her why she had not demanded prohibition when she was a minister, Aruna said that there was no such rampant sale of liquor at that time and there wasn't any such crime as like the Disha incident which has taken place under TRS rule.

Replying to question that the campaign is an attempt to get the state unit president post, she said while joining the party, she told the party high command that she will launch movements against rampant liquor sales in the state and also against crimes against women.
